Best Practice of GS.

公司其中一條Best_practice 係咁寫:

Over communicate. it is better to share information than not. If in doubt, post colleagues on what is happening. Seek opinions even when you are comfortable making your own decision.

Choice

I hope I make the right decision.

When I read my blog after a year, there will be no regret. :)

I want to write down my career goals and share it at a later post.

A New Start

Long left my personal blog...I think it is a good time to start it again..

Putting a lot of effort into SAS software these days as four guys and I am working on a data-mining project for Hang Seng Bank, my future employer. Sometimes you just don't know what's ahead. :)

Five days ago, Japan experienced the largest earthquake, causing thousands of casualties and deaths. While the earth stopped shaking, the leakage of radioactivity in nuclear plants became the greatest challenges.

Wanna share this essay wrote by an technician in nuclear plants. Is nuclear power as clean as we think?

Halfway through the Goldman Sachs Internship program

There will be only 5 weeks left for the summer internship. Really learn a lot in it and make a lot of friends. Hope to make most of the internship for the remaining time. :)

Throughout the first four weeks of internship in HCM, I was involved in various projects in the rewards team. I mainly worked with Eva Lee and Georgi Suen on the HCM information and reporting projects: 1: coordinating industry-wide round table for the HCM technology in Asia region 2. Updating training matertials in the training center together with an US intern 3. Helping to tranform the EV lettlers applicable to China branches.

For the round-table project, I was responsible for compiling a list of contact persons who were also working in HR IS field. We actually started from a nearly empty spreadsheet with only a few people known in other banks. By utilizing the European network, we gradually got in touch with quite a lot of bankers and IBM, a company solution provider. We just sent out a formal invitation to all the participants and the forum will be hosted by us in mid-August. In the following week, I will continue to follow up with the event, preapring necessay presentation materials for the forum.

The second project was updating training materials for the training center. These manuals were mainly for internal users like WFA and generalist for handling problems like new hire, termination etc. My job was to organize, update and consolidate the documents. Since I was not very familiar with the operations of the HR system, Geogi offered a lot of help and guildance to me throughout the process. More than that, as I was working with Marcus, an US intern, we also conducted occasionally phone calls to update each other on the progress of the documents. we have completed two global process documents so far.

The third project was about translating the EV letter for the Chinese market. Since Goldman Sachs was developing the China market rapidly, making the need for simplified Chinese letters was growing. With the guidance of Eva and Georgi, I helped translated the English letters into Chinese ones. For our next step, we will have the translated letter going through the legal/ compliance for final review.

Besides these three projects, I also help Shirlin a bit on the interbank benefits survey. Every two years, the rewards team does a bench-marking survey to make sure Goldman is competitive against other competitors. I helped consolidate and verified the Korea part of the survey. The benefits survey helps me a lot in understanding the benefit structure of Goldman Sachs in Korea market.

Got an offer from Goldman Sachs

These days I was just too lazy to write blogs. Nothing really happened.
I have a very nice trip with Cindy and Jacky to Northern Europe and Russia. Quite enjoy the relaxing trip. And Cindy met some cute guys during the trip hoho.

Finally, I got an offer from Goldman as a summer analyst in the human capital management. I am quite look forward to it as it is a truly well-organized internship program for me. I will be given formal company and divisional training and have a mentor and buddy.

To get the offer, I got four rounds of interviews in total. I have spoken to Garvey Chui. Fiona Lowe, Stephen Golden and Paul Choi respectively. I think they are the head from different divisions in the HCM team. To be honest, I don't think I did the best in the interviews. I did answer some of the questions quite poorly because I haven't prepared for them beforehand. But the interviewers were so kind to give me feedback and I performed better next time.Appreciate that.

I will be returning back to Hong Kong on 6/6/2010, which also implies the end of my exchange program. Miss my exchange friends but I am sure we will meet again.

Recently, I really start to look into my career and discover there are a lot of stuff to prepare and know indeed. I hope I can fully utilize the time I have during summer to add value to myself. ha.
